The Hollies residents and staff were surprised and shocked to have received a visit from the current Miss World. The beautiful and talented Opal Suchata from Thailand flew to the UK for a flying visit for a big event in Cardiff and while here she wanted to come to our care home and meet some of the residents.
Opal was an absolute joy to to have in The Hollies in Pontypridd and joined our residents for tea and cakes with our residents and staff. Spotting a piano, Opal offered to play the piano for the residents who really loved hearing her play. Residents told Opal about their memories of watching Miss World on TV over the years and talked about past winners. Opal wanted to find out more about our residents’ lives and stories and also found time to visit residents in their rooms.

Resident Lillian said “I was absolutely shocked that Miss World came to the home, I honestly thought the staff were pulling my leg. I mean why would Miss World want to come and see us? She was very beautiful and tall.”
Another resident Jean said “I couldn’t believe she was there, she just appeared in my room. She was so tall and beautiful, she had a gorgeous crown on and I knew it was true. She wished me a happy 94th birthday and chatted to me a little. I told my daughter and she couldn’t believe it either.”
All the staff and residents were just so overwhelmed that Miss World had taken time out of her busy schedule to take time and speak to them. What an honour. Thank you to the lovely Opal for your time.
