The very wonderful Florence will be turning 104 in September and we are all in awe of her as she is still a vibrant, happy and an active resident in our Cwrt Enfys care home. When asked what her secret is to a long life her reply is simple…”Whiskey! If I ever had a cold I would have a little glass and I’d be alright for another year!”
Flo was quite the miracle baby as she was only 3lb when she was born and is still going strong at the wonderful age of 103!
Originally from Gorseinon, Flo was married to David Peter Evans and mother to Malcolm and Mary. She has a big family and has four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren so she is always delighted to have visits from them.
She told us that one of her favourite moments was when her granddaughter Debbie and her husband Mark launched their butcher’s shop in Ystradgynlais and on opening day Flo was determined to be there and loved every minute, taking as many photos as she could and telling everyone how proud she was.
We always love to hear stories from Flo about how she would stay active over the years, especially how when she was not raising her family she used to work at Cwmllynfell School supervising children on their lunch break or how she loved visiting church and used to sing opera in the village. We have been lucky enough to have heard her incredible voice!
Her birthday is always a special time of year as her whole family throws her a fantastic party and the staff are always honoured to be part of her special day. We look forward to celebrating her big 104th birthday in September and sure there will be whiskeys all around!
